Advisian is a leading provider of Environment and Society (E&S) services in Canada. The E&S Service Line is a vibrant and growing team covering: Environmental Science (including marine, atmospherics, terrestrial, and aquatics); Society & Engagement; Planning, Permits & Approvals; and Sustainability & Compliance. We have a challenging opportunity for a part-time hourly Intermediate level Ecologist to join our dynamic team in Calgary, AB or Kamloops, BC. This position has the opportunity to increase to part-time or full-time permanent as our portfolio in this part of Western Canada is growing. Our ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in terrestrial and/or aquatic ecology and be experienced in wildlife, vegetation, aquatic and/or fisheries field survey and reporting work.
As our ideal candidate for this dynamic and challenging role, your responsibilities will consist of the following tasks:
- Participate in fieldwork, including leading field staff;
- Author wildlife, vegetation, wetland, aquatic, and fisheries technical reports, workplans, proposals;
- Possess the terrestrial and/or aquatic ecology technical skills and regulatory knowledge for various projects;
- Data entry and analysis;
- Client management, including communication through verbal and written correspondence
- Responsible for personal safety and the safe working practices and understand and follow Worley occupational health and safety procedures
- Work independently, or as part of multi-disciplinary teams;
- Participate in business development activities;
- Assist, guide, or mentor less experienced team members to develop their technical and project skills;
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients; and
- Travel as required for various projects.
The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications and experience:
- Bachelors or masterโs degree in science, environmental resource management, or equivalent experience;
- Professional Biologist or ability to obtain P.Biol or R.P.Bio designation or relevant provincial agrology designation (e.g., P.Ag.);
- At least 5 years of experience working in terrestrial and aquatic ecology consulting;
- A strong understanding of applicable legislation pertaining to wildlife, vegetation and fisheries in Western Canada;
- Experience conducting various wildlife surveys, vegetation assessments, ecosite classification surveys, and fish and fish habitat surveys;
- Experience installing and maintaining remote wildlife cameras and autonomous recording units would be an asset;
- Excellent communication, organization and time management skills;
- Professional experience in industries such as pipelines, upstream/downstream oil and gas facilities, mining, infrastructure, and renewable energies within AB and BC, would be an asset;
- Strong interpersonal, management and leadership skills;
- Strong technical writing skills;
- Self-starter and flexible team player
- Ability to work within a team environment;
- Excellent computer skills;
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
