What we offer you  

Water Engineering is part of a global Water Service Line and includes water/wastewater treatment specialists, process engineers and other discipline engineering professionals with a broad range of technical skills and experience. Currently, these professionals are engaged on a number of challenging technical projects for all aspects of water management including - resource development, municipal water and wastewater, treatment and transportation, produced water management, large scale seawater desalination facility design, beneficial reuse of desalination waste, and more. 

We have an exciting new opportunity for an exceptional candidate to be responsible for the strategic business leadership for a growing Water Engineering team across Australia and to act as the Managing Consultant for the Asia Pacific Region.

The position will be based in Perth or Brisbane where there is an imminent market need and will focus on the business development of existing and new clients in the Australian and the broader Asia Pacific region (APAC). .

In addition to growing a business in the APAC region there is a requirement to work closely with our global Water Service Line centres in Calgary, Houston, London and Sao Paulo to expand the business internationally. Some steps have been made along this road, however the business intends to expand global presence and capability.

Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:

  1. Business Development and Strategy
  • Accountable for transforming the strategy into a sustainable practice in APAC, including working with Global Service Line Leader, other managing consultants, other parts of the business, and a wide range of contractor & SMEs externally to setup, and drive business goals and objectives
  • Maintain, progress, and build relationships key client relationships that support the Water Service Line, and overall Advisian strategy
  • Support seller-doers within the practice or Sector leaders across other areas on key/strategic pursuits and proposals
  • Contribute to the strategy for growth of the global service line as related to the specialist area
  1. Financial
  • Work with Global Service Line Leader to establish and meet revenue targets
  • Responsible for the utilization (i.e. billability) of resources and overhead spending within the APAC
  • Responsible for development of the project owning forecast for the area of responsibility
  • Accountable for meeting revenue targets, including support of seller-doers within practice and across other areas on key/strategic pursuits and proposals
  1. Leadership & People Management
  • Provides leadership for APAC within the Service Line, with a secondary focus for all resources within the locational or geographic footprint
  • Responsible for identifying and hiring key technical talent to support to delivery of projects within the area of responsibility
  • Accountable for the development, training and mentorship of the technical staff including adherence with professional association regulations where applicable
  • Steer Performance Management expectations, engagement, and requirements for direct reports and employees within the practice. 
  • Fosters and promotes networks of professionals, peers & SMEs supporting, collaborating, within and across Service Lines and Business Lines
  • Monitor & Manage resourcing within the Practice including employees, SMEs, and contractor network and facilitates use of cost effective and efficient technology to support projects within the services lines
  1. Customer/Project
  • Accountable for the profitable (meets as-sold) and successful delivery of projects within the practice, including use of commercial tools and models, cash collection and use of best fit of capability for the client (i.e. resource, price, location) 
  • Support Projects managers, where needed in gathering customer feedback, resolving customer concerns and ensuring project quality
  • Driving Key Account Management and providing project sponsorship where needed.
  • Ensures project quality and adherence to internal Enterprise Management System (EMS) and external technical standards

  • Track record of successful delivery of projects / work packages to meet agreed budget and schedule
  • Technical reporting prowess
  • Proven record of business and team development and growth
  • Preparation of man-hour budget estimates and schedules for projects / work packages

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Mechanical, Civil or Chemical Engineering
  • Technical and management expertise in the water sector with experience on major infrastructure projects;
  • Ideally have experiences in a consultancy sector company.
  • Proven track record in business management
  • 20+ years of experience;
  • Member of a professional organization (IEAust etc) and ability to be registered as a Professional Engineer within Australian State jurisdictions (RPEQ etc.);
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent organizational, technical writing and communication skills; presentation skills are an asset;
  • Experience in technical mentoring and training of junior and intermediate staff; and a high level of business development and customer focus.
