We’re looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Wagerup team. This individual will be joining a site-based project team supporting a local mine at Huntly (1.5 hrs south of Perth).

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be working with the site Project Team Leads, site design team and other disciplines to conduct engineering services providing a ‘fit for purpose’ engineering solution in alliance with the client requirements. Stakeholders will include the client who’s engineering offices you are based in, you will be supported by your Site Discipline Lead and design team.

What you’ll do

We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Wagerup team.

The role responsibilities include:

  • Deliver discipline specific engineering services that meet Worley, the client’s and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.  
  • Undertake engineering design and technical verification (as required) of discipline project deliverables by others.
  • Perform and/or manage discipline specific engineering services such as:  
    • Ensure the project scope is clear and that changes to scope comply with project change management processes.
    • Prepare/assist or oversee the production of engineering calculations, drawings and documentation.
    • Ensure all deliverables are checked in accordance with Worley checking procedures, ensure a safe and sustainable engineering design considering constructability, operability and maintainability.
    • Attend site visits where required and participate in project reviews, HAZIDs/HAZOPs and safety in design workshops as required.  
  • Undertake tasks on time and within budget.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with the project stakeholders/team including the Workshare team, Lead Engineer/Designer and Project Managers, establish and maintain relationships with contractors, clients and other Worley team members at site.  
  • Assist in scoping engineering requirements, methodologies and estimating engineering budget for proposals in response to requests for quotations from clients.
  • Consider and document Safety in Design risks for all projects at all phases. Have a full understanding & ability to perform specific engineering design LV/MV, instrumentation & PLC electrical equipment, inclusive of:
  • Consideration of site conditions and brownfield interfaces.
  • Proven strong experience in:
    • Creation of P&IDs, electrical drawings (single line diagrams / schematics / MCCs etc) & Instrumentation (loop diagrams / layouts / terminations etc).
    • LV electrical system design and calculations (e.g. CB ratings / trip settings / cable sizing / voltage drop calculations / max demand calculations).
    • Equipment sizing, cable routing, equipment layouts, lighting design, earthing design, arc flash requirements and HV switchgear and MCC design.
    • Control system interfacing and instrumentation, any other electrical calculations required for design.
    • Protection systems and relay settings (overcurrent, earth fault, motors, VSDs).
    • Site experience such as scoping solutions, equipment inspections, construction and commissioning.
    • Witnessing and inspection of equipment during FATs, SATs.
    • Preparing ITPs, MTOs, datasheets, specifications, construction methodologies, philosophy documents, procurement requisitions and construction scope of works packages.
  • Input into electrical estimates and execution schedules, understanding of shutdown planning.
  • Experience / awareness of PLC / SCADA/DCS systems hardware & software, exposure to field instrumentation / field verification.
  • Understanding of project phases and level of design required from concept through to execution.
  • Ability to identify and report changes to project scope.
  • Package up work packs for workshare implementation (As required).
  • Technical support to junior engineers.
  • Self-travel to Huntly Mine required (consider journey of <1.5 hr one way to site).

What you’ll have

  • Minimum 8+ years’ experience as an Electrical Design Engineer in relevant industry - strong engineering design skills is non negotiable.
  • Bachelor of Engineering - Electrical (essential) accredited by Engineers Australia.
  • Hazardous Area Certification, Functional Safety Certification, Electrical Trade background are desirable.
  • Electrical and Instrumentation design experience in the Refinery/Mining Industry, or similar.
  • Experience in Brownfield electrical systems modifications (LV/MV/HV) and instrumentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to convey information and detail to project team members, the client and Worley Support Office.
  • You have a “hit the ground running” attitude.
  • Good understanding of Australian electrical standards.
  • Be able to work effectively and efficiently with little supervision, Pro-active with excellent attention to detail, effectively manages change to work tasks and the work environment. 
  • Able to work on multiple projects of various size and complexity, able to work effectively in a small multi-disciplinary team located on site.
  • Knowledge of brownfield sites and interfaces.
