Construction Manager

This role is responsible for management and co-ordination of major multidiscipline construction project for an offshore deep-water floating production facility in the Gulf of Mexico. The candidate will be required to utilize management skills to demonstrate excellence in the following key areas:

  • Provide input into engineering design to ensure constructability.

  • Develop scope of work and ITT package

  • Evaluate tender packages and provide recommendation for Award

  • Develop and review construction planning and monitor progress to ensure they are on schedule and within quality and cost estimates.

  • Authorise construction planning, programming and on-site completion schedules and liaise with the Project Manager over completion dates for different phases of construction.

  • Supervise and schedule the activities of Site Engineers and on-site purchasing and administrative staff to ensure coordination of the construction process. Co-ordinate and control site staff and physical resources to achieve construction targets.

  • Liaise with the Fabricator to modify design in construction systems and methods necessitated by the progress of construction.

  • Review project costs and take corrective action if significant deviations from budget occur. Report regularly to management on budgets.

  • Resolve day-to-day on-site industrial relations problems and refer major industrial relations problems to management.

  • Co-ordinate the safety committee to resolve potential safety issues.

  • Control project programming, cost control, time control, quality control, purchasing, contract administration, general site administration and the activities of sub-contractors.

  • Management and control of health, safety and environmental risks associated with construction activities.

  • Development and implementation of initiatives to improve cost effectiveness.

  • Effective management and control of risks through design and installation.

  • Understanding and implementing the requirements of relevant OH&S Regulations

  • Maintaining design integrity and quality within the project team.

  • Mentoring, coaching and training of subordinates.


The successful candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 20 years in the construction management of offshore oil & gas facilities

  • Sound understanding of applicable GOM regulations, standards and codes of practice

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills

  • Willingness to relocate to a fabrication yard located in SE Asia or Gulf Coast

  • Demonstrable commitment to HSE management in a project / construction environment

  • A high level of customer focus

  • Quality Assurance – Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system.

  • Safety – Responsible for personal safety safe working practices. Understand and follow OH&S procedures.

Additional Selection Criteria:

  • Working experience within an Integrated Team would be an advantage.
