API Shop Technician - Prudhoe Bay, AK
While performing the duties of a Valve Technician under the supervision of a Foreman and Lead, the API Shop Tech provides day-to-day service for the API shop.
The position is located on the North Slope and requires a rotational work schedule (2 weeks on and 2 weeks off). Relocation assistance to Alaska is not provided, however transportation between Anchorage and Prudhoe Bay is provided. Room and meals provided while in Prudhoe Bay.
Essential Job Functions:
- Service and trouble shoot:
- API gate valves (i.e. Gray, CIW, FMC, McEvoy and WKM models)
- Hydraulic actuators (i.e. Baker, Axelson, Otis, ME60)
- ANSI plug and ball valve
- Assist with pressure testing
- Attend various technical, developmental and safety training
- Demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures
- Demonstrate support for the company’s environmental management system
- Understand and follow procedures
- Ability to Q/C trees/valves to be put into service in the field.
- Ability to enter data into TRP databases.
- Ability to operate hydro test pump.
- Ability to operate Lincoln grease pump.
- Ability to inspect and rebuild various BPV’s and TWC’s.
- Ability to dis-assemble, inspect and rebuild various SSV actuators.
- Ability to dis-assemble trees/valves for scrap.
- Ability to find torque spec’s for various sizes of flanges and operate Hytorq torque wrench to torque flanges to API specs.
- Ability to operate loader’s/forklift at Wells Support.
- Ability to operate 10 ton overhead crane.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Able to work as part of a team; communicate effectively with fellow workers and alternate
- Sound knowledge of operations and safety practices and policies
- Able to work extended hours in inclement weather
- Competent mechanical skills, including ability to use tools and equipment applicable to petrochemical operation
- Must be a self-starter; able to work independently with minimal supervision

- Must have ability to stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, reach through low and high ranges and exhibit normal balance and coordination. These basic physical requirements are essential for safe performance of the job in harsh environments with exposure to very cold temperatures while wearing arctic gear.
- Lift 40 lbs from floor to knuckles x 2 with a 12 second interval
- Lift 40 lbs from floor to waist x 2 with a 12 second interval
- Lift 40 lbs from floor to shoulders x 2 with a 12 second interval
- Lift 12 lbs fully overhead with one arm x 10, self-paced but continuous
- Shovel 5 minutes self-paced and continuous. *See shoveling test instructions at end of this document
- Carry Test: Carry 40 lbs with two hands for 100 ft x 3, self-paced, but continuous. Allow a 60 second rest break after each carry of 100 ft
- Stair Climb and Carry: While carrying 35 lbs with one hand and holding onto a railing with the other hand for safety, walk up and down 25 steps x 2 for a total of 50 steps, self-paced, but continuous. Allow a 60 second rest break after climbing up and down 25 steps
- Slanted Ladder: Climb up and down 10 rungs x 2 for a total of 20 rungs. Self-paced, but continuous
- Repetitive Kneel Test: Perform from standing, kneel on one knee, alternate from left to right knee x 5 each knee
- Repetitive Stoop Test: Perform from standing position, bend forward at waist as far as possible without bending the knees with hands reaching toward the floor x 5, self-paced but continuous
- Repetitive Squat Test: Perform a functional squat and stand x 5
- Twist and Flex Test: Perform from standing alternate toe touches x 5 to each side to assess ability to twist and flex the trunk repetitively
- Valid Class A CDL driver’s license with hazmat endorsement and ability to be insured by a Worley insurance provider required
- Two (2) years’ experience in petrochemical environment preferred
- Tree and API Valve knowledge preferred
